Analysis of Hydrogen-Induced Changes in the Cyclic Deformation Behavior of AISI 300–Series Austenitic Stainless Steels Using Cyclic Indentation Testing

چکیده

The locally occurring mechanisms of hydrogen embrittlement significantly influence the fatigue behavior a material, which was shown in previous research on two different AISI 300-series austenitic stainless steels with austenite stabilities. In this preliminary work, an enhanced crack growth as well changes initiation sites and morphology caused by were observed. To further analyze results obtained research, present work local cyclic deformation material volume analyzed using indentation testing. Moreover, these correlated to dislocation structures transmission electron microscopy (TEM) vicinity cracks. tests show decreased hardening potential increased mobility for conditions precharged hydrogen, correlates TEM analysis, revealing courser cells tip. Consequently, presented indicate that localized plasticity (HELP) mechanism leads accelerated change materials investigated. summary, high analysis effects behavior.

Isothermal and cyclic oxidation behavior of AISI 430 ferritic stainless steel coated with titanium

In order to improve the oxidation resistance of ferritic stainless steel, it is possible to deposit a protective coating on steel substrate. In this research through the usage of pack cementation method a coating of titanium was applied on the surface of AISI 430 stainless steel. Scanning Electron-Microscopy (SEM), Energy- Dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDAX) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were us...

Analysis of deformation induced martensitic transformation in stainless steels

Many studies monitoring the formation of martensite during the tensile deformation of austenite report data which are, in principle, affected by both the applied stress and the resulting plastic strain. It is not clear in these circumstances whether the transformation is stress induced (i.e. the stress provides a mechanical driving force) or whether the generation of defects during deformation ...

Transient liquid phase bonding of AISI 304L stainless steels with the austenitic and martensitic microstructures

In the present study, the effect of time and base metal microstructure on the Transient Liquid Phase (TLP) bonding of 304L stainless steel was studied. TLP was performed at 1050 0C for 5 and 60 minutes on the coarse grain austenitic and martensitic microstructure using BNi-2 interlayer. To prepare martensitic microstructure, as-received 304L was rolled at -15 0C up to 80% rolling reduction. TEM...

Low-Temperature Carburization of Austenitic Stainless Steels

LOW-TEMPERATURE CARBURIZATION is a gaseous carburization process performed at atmospheric pressure, at temperatures where the kinetics of substitutional diffusion are very slow. Low-temperature carburization hardens the surface of austenitic stainless steels through the diffusion of interstitial carbon, without the formation of carbides. The surface must be activated, by modification and remova...

Superplastic deformation induced by cyclic hydrogen charging

Deformation under the combined action of external stress and cyclic hydrogen charging/discharging is studied in a model material, titanium. Cyclic charging with hydrogen is carried out at 860 °C, which repeatedly triggers the transformation between hydrogen-lean -Ti and hydrogen-rich -Ti. Due to bias from the externally applied tensile stress, the internal mismatch strains produced by this isot...
